Madhubani painting :
In this blog i am sharing my experience with madhubani painting on kurti, which was kept in closet for long time and was decided to do something interesting.
Madhubani Art is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of India and Nepal. Madhubani paintings mostly depict people and their association with nature and scenes and deities from the ancient epics.
This painting is done with various tools, such as fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks and using natural dyes and pigments. It is characterised by its eye-catching geometrical patterns. In this paintings generally, no space is left empty; the gaps are filled by paintings of flowers, animals, birds, and even geometric designs.
Madhubani paintings on clothes are charactersied by figures that have prominently outlined, bulging fish-like eyes and pointed noses.
Here are some simple steps to complete madhubani painting on fabric
Madhubani material :
1. Nib pen (or) eyeliner brush to get fine
outlines
2. Painting brush to fill the designs
3. Fabric to be painted
4. Acrylic colours
5. Cardboard under fabric
Madhubani painting design :
Select the design which you are comfortable with it and start painting on a fabric, if you are a free hand painter or else just practice simple designs first as a rough sketch and then proceed it on fabric.
Madhubani fabric :
The raw materials used for this painting are papers, satin cloth, fabric cloth, cotton cloth etc. On walls and cloth, they use acrylic colours. So that the paint will be evenly distributed without any smudging. Here i have chosen cotton kurti, which was plain and thought of adding some simple designs to it.
Note : Use cardboard under the fabric while painting.
Madhubani Outline designs :
The shapes and figures are outlined with black acrylic paint using nib-pens or eyeliner brush. Generally, this painting revolves around the life of women. I have started with two peacocks in the center, in which peacock represents divine love, knowledge, prosperity and romance in madhubani painting. I ended up with simple designs around peacock.
Madhubani filling design :
Contrast colours for filling gives vibrant look in madhubani. My kurti colour was in mustard, i used both violet and red for filling and for drawing lines too.
